The internet brings so much potential for success that it can almost be overwhelming. While many of us view an online business as one that solely exists online, the internet is also a very valuable resource for offline, local businesses as well. While marketing online in general is pretty standard, some extra steps may be added to marketing for a local business to best ensure targeted, effective results.
It’s great if you have some sort of marketing budget to devote to online marketing though it is not necessary. The great thing about online marketing is that much of it is cheap or even free! If you aren’t spending the dough to outsource your marketing however, it’s going to require more online training and time to implement what you learn.
The first tool you can use is Twitter. You can target local search terms and interact with users in order to start conversations and get your image/brand out there into the community. Check out my other post on how to market with Twitter for some more specific tips.
You can also use Facebook as a page or account to get information circulated about your business. You can even set up Facebook as your temporary online homepage if you don’t have a preexisting website to direct customers too. You can post updates about specials, coupons, etc. and receive feedback comments from your customers.
Finally, it’s a great idea to use local publications such as newspaper websites or other local blogs to get the word out. If there are any popular local bloggers, you can volunteer to write a guest post for their blog in order to get some free press.
