If you are a webmaster who is just about to start running a web design business, the most and the first difficult step is to get clients to put on your portfolio page, here are some simple tips from my own experiences at the beginning when I decided to become a webmaster.
Do not think about profit, think about Portfolio First
Mark Zuckerberg – Founder of FaceBook, at the beggining of building FaceBook he did not focus on profit but concentrated on how to get much traffic and the server capacity as well as scripts that can serve a high amount of traffic, because Mark Zuckerberg believes if the traffic is high and visitor always return to the website, profits will automatically come from advertisers. As we know now he is one of the youngest billionaires in the world.
Maybe we are not as lucky as Mark Zuckerberg, but we can imitate his philosophy. Who knows one day we can be as lucky as Mark, who knows. For someone who begins to become webmaster please do not think too much on making profit first, which must be considered and the main focus is on the portfolio, because  a webmaster is considered by how long he is in the world of web designing and of course the number of portfolios.
Then after that, we can talk about making profits.
Provide Cheap Promotion Packages
Create promotional packages in  very low prices. It is enough as long as you can buy domain and hosting and get a small amount of money to treat your girlfriend to go to the movie. Use this promo package to stimulate visitors to use your services. Create the promotional packages as attractive as possible, use your creativity to the maximum.
Build a Free website for Friends
What I mean by FREE is free in terms of the cost in designing the website, but for domain and hosting you need to charge them. As a return, you place your banner ads on the website as the developer. If you are active enough, in a few months I am sure you will get some clients that you can put in your portfolio list. Your prospects will look at your portfolio, if they think your work is good they will be interested to use your services.  And if you have already had many clients, so you are able to put the new prices.
Where there is a will there is a way, the important thing is creativity. Therefore keep on the spirit and continue working!!!
